Dr J believes that being of service to others is one of life’s greatest honours and as such, she has endeavoured, in everything she does, to find ways to give back to the community in any way possible. By sharing her skills, abilities, and talents, she hopes to assist others in feeling empowered and fulfilled.
Conference Committee Experience
-
2011 Active member of organizational team for The Western Conference on Science Education to be held July 6-8.
- 2010 Organized and coordinated Toastmasters District 60 Spring Conference for over 300 participants to include supervising 21 team members (each with their own portfolio and committee). Duties included defining the vision and mission, managing a budget under strenuous constraints while ensuring workshops, keynote speakers, events, food & refreshments, accommodations, advertisement, public relations, gifts, and keynote speaker travel arrangements, were all in place and of excellent quality. Also chaired biweekly conference committee meetings in an efficient and effective manner such that each team member was aware of the vision, of their responsibilities, was supplied with the information, equipment, and tools they needed to accomplish their portfolio, and felt empowered in their role.
- 2009 Volunteered as the Audio/Visual Chair for both the 2009 Spring and Fall District 60 Toastmasters conferences. Responsible for ensuring all audio/visual equipment was in place and functioning for all activities over the 2 ½ days of each conference. Was in close communication with the conference coordinator, the presenters, and the contest chairs to ensure all audio/visual needs were met smoothly and efficiently. This included sound checks, lapel microphone set up, dual projector coordination, PowerPoint presentations loaded and functional, movement of equipment between rooms, uploading of daily pictures to be displayed as a slide show, theme music primed and ready for individual officer entries during key events, and attending biweekly conference committee meetings.
- 2008 Volunteered as an Activator at the 2008 Fall District 60 Toastmasters conference. Duties included communicating with workshop presenters and ensuring their introductions were clear and effective; keeping the presenters on time during their workshops; ensuring presenter gifts were in place and presented at the end of workshops.
